It's All About the Holiday Lights!

Your Local Guide to Christmas Lights Displays in the the Frankfort-Georgetown and Surrounding Areas

December 6, 2018

I love Christmas lights. There is something magical and awe inspiring about them that puts me right in the holiday mood. When I think back on what made Christmas so special in my childhood years, I don't think about presents. I think about the wonderful family traditions. One of my fondest Christmas tradtion memories as a kid was driving around as a family and looking at the lit up houses. More recently, where we lived in Massachusetts, there was an awesome 800 acre park that did an impressive 3 mile drive through lights display every year. We would buy the season pass and enjoy it at will.

As a newbie to the area I have been checking out as many local displays as possible to find our family fun and see where our new traditions will develop. Lucky for our readers, we want you to join in the fun too! This means we have compiled a list for you AND you guessed it.... GIVEAWAYS!!!

Did we miss some that need to be on the list? Please let us know at kristenc@macaronikid.com.

Local Lights Displays:
Mini Road Trip Worth the Drive:

Below will probably be my favorite list of the year. It is the list of local familiy houses that have must see lights & holiday displays. They have taken a considerable deal of time, dedication, and resources, and devoted it to bringing joy to others. I would like to take a moment to say THANK YOU to these families. I hope you know that your committment to bringing cheer to others is greatly appreciated by the community!

"The North Pole in Nonesuch is nestled away outside of the town of Versailles, KY. Along your drive into the countryside you will encounter quiet, cozy, country roads with many rolling hills and farmland. Once you top the hill headed into the community of Nonesuch, you will become quickly amazed at the sight of the North Pole! You will see 50,000 multicolor lights, 200 Christmas blow mold characters, a 20 foot mega tree, and several wire frames adorning the house and yard of the Cox family. There is even a pathway through the display to get up close to your favorite Christmas characters. You can even meet Santa and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 6 pm - 9 pm!" ~ Dalton Cox

"My husband, Steven's light obsession started 5 years ago when we were first dating. He always made it a point to have our house decorated on the outside and inside. Once we had our oldest sone in 2014, Steven wanted to make sure that Christmas was always magical for him. As a family we loved driving around during the holidays and seeing the big light displays. So Steven made it his mission that every year we would make our light display bigger and bigger. Last year was our first year we figure out how to get the lights to dance t music and this year Steven was so proud to get them to a radio station! You can tune in to 88.1 while visiting our house to follow along with the music! Now that we have two little boys we want Christmas to be a time for them to love and be excited about. We want them to always know the true meaning of Christmas and the love that we have for them. Seeing their little faces light up while watching our diplay is the best feeling in the world. If we can make other people smile and love Chritmas like we do, all of the hard work is worth it!" ~ Lindsay Campton

Mr. Lewis Reed's daughter says of her father's lights display, "He's been doing it for as long as I can remember, I think for at least 18 years. Each year it gets bigger and biegger because he loves to see the smile on people's faces. This year we will be adding Santa to the mix, passing out candy canes. Sadly we don't know the date yet. He was an electrician and is now an electrical engineer, so all of this comes easy to him. Overall he just loves Christmas and the joy of it!" ~ Krysta Reed

"We began decorating our house with lights and music about 8 years ago. Every year we add more strands of lights to build out a more complete experience. There are six plugs on the music control box and if you watch closely you can figure out which strands are synced together. Our control box plays 20 different Christmas songs from a speaker in the yard. Merry Christmas from the Harrell Family!" ~ Mark Harrell
